Diagnosed at 16, Creating Through Chronic Illness: Indian Artist Prajakta’s Endometriosis Story

A recording by FLARE

Some episodes stay with you because of the honesty inside them. This is one of those episodes.

In this week’s episode of Inside FLARE, I sit down with Prajakta Prajakta , an incredibly talented multidisciplinary artist whose work explores identity, emotion, memory, culture, and chronic illness through a deeply personal creative lens. Prajakta was diagnosed with endometriosis at a very young age, something that shaped the way she understood her body, her future, and herself long before most people around her could fully understand what she was experiencing.

What makes this conversation especially unique is the way Prajakta connects art and illness so naturally and honestly. We talk about growing up as an Indian woman navigating chronic illness, the emotional complexity of receiving an early diagnosis, and how creativity became both an outlet and a language for expressing experiences that often felt impossible to explain out loud.

Throughout the episode, Prajakta shares how her relationship with art evolved alongside her relationship with her body. We talk about identity, visibility, pain, resilience, and the tension between appearing “fine” externally while carrying something deeply difficult internally.

One of my favorite parts of this conversation is hearing the incredible breadth of Prajakta’s creative work and perspective. She brings such a thoughtful and layered approach to everything she creates, and I’m so excited that she will also be part of FLARE’s upcoming exhibition this fall. Her voice and artwork are such an important reflection of what this community is all about.

This episode feels softer, reflective, artistic, and deeply human. It’s about much more than diagnosis. It’s about what it means to grow up inside a body you’re still learning how to understand, and how creativity can help transform isolation into connection.

I’m so grateful Prajakta shared her story with us.

If you’ve ever struggled to explain your pain, felt disconnected from your body, or found comfort through creativity, I think this conversation will resonate with you in a really meaningful way.

Keep creating, keep healing💛
